Can AI help an old idea roam a little farther?The Challenge
I created the first two posters in this series years ago, the old-school way: Adobe, a mouse, and a lot of clicking. I wanted to see whether AI could help expand the series while keeping the same layered shapes, muted colors, tiny animals, and weathered print feel.
The Idea
Use the original posters as the visual blueprint for a larger collection celebrating California wildlife. Each piece pairs a specific animal with its natural habitat, using the environment as the main character and the animal as a small discovery within it.
My Role
I selected the animals and locations, directed the visual style, refined the compositions, and created a consistent layout and typographic system across the series. AI helped produce the raw imagery, but the art direction and final decisions stayed with me.
The Outcome
A growing collection that feels connected to the original handmade posters, even though it was created with a very different set of tools. And what do you know? With the right direction, AI could get surprisingly close.
